Our Vision

To foster new indigenous leadership at all levels, capable of finding and leading solutions for all Australians.

About Us

The Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre (AILC) was established in 2001 to foster Indigenous leadership across Australia. It is a not-for-profit company, owned and controlled by Indigenous Australians.
The AILC is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), delivering Australia’s only accredited courses in Indigenous leadership, as well as non-accredited short courses in specific leadership skills and diversity mentoring.

Currently, the AILC offers leadership training at the Certificate II and Certificate IV levels, with plans to offer an Advanced Diploma of Indigenous leadership in 2011. Courses are offered throughout Australia to adult Indigenous Australians of all ages, backgrounds, cultural expression and lifestyles.

Certificate courses are fully funded through partnerships with corporate sponsors, government departments and other organisations working with Indigenous people. This allows Indigenous participants to attend and gain leadership skills that can contribute to positive change in Indigenous communities.

Our Courses

Certificate Programs currently offered:

• Certificate II in Indigenous Leadership
• Certificate IV in Indigenous Leadership

Short Courses currently offered:

• An Introduction to Diversity Mentoring (Indigenous)
• Short courses in specific leadership skills

Programs to be offered in the future:

• Advanced Diploma of Indigenous Leadership

Making a Difference for Indigenous People
Strong and supported Indigenous leaders use the knowledge of leadership within their own culture, as well as western understandings of leadership. Instead of using leadership ‘from the front’, effective Indigenous leadership works on gaining consensus and consideration of how a decision impacts on country.

Other programs
As well as providing courses, we aim to have a strong organisation which will:
• Increase Indigenous people’s formal knowledge, skills and capacity to take effective leadership in their own lives and in their communities
• Foster ongoing development and connection among our graduates
• Research, promote and communicate the elements of effective Indigenous leadership
