Bungala Aboriginal Corporation
About Us:
Bungala Aboriginal Corporation (Bungala) has been working in the area of Indigenous disadvantage, particularly in the employment and training arena, for in excess of 15 years.
Initially our organisation focused on providing employment and training programs in the regional areas of Port Augusta, Whyalla and Port Pirie. In more recent years we have expanded our service into more remote areas to meet the needs of unemployed Indigenous people.
Bungala cover a total service area of 756,000km in the unincorporated Northern and Far Western areas of South Australia and have in excess of 1300 Aboriginal persons engaged in our services in our service delivery area. Bungala’s area consists of the Northern Flinders Ranges, Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta and the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. We are recognised by government agencies and employers as a very successful provider of employment/training services and the CDEP program in all of these areas, having achieved excellent employment and training outcomes through our delivery of CDEP, IEC (Indigenous Employment Centre), STEP (Structured Training and Employment Program), STEP-ERS (Structured Training and Employment Program – Employment Related Services) and most recently IEP (Indigenous Employment Program).
Bungala’s approach to CDEP delivery over the past 15 years and our philosophical belief is - and has always been, that the CDEP program is to facilitate employment and training opportunities that articulate to economic independence for Aboriginal people. This can be achieved when CDEP is used as a vehicle to expose participants to the replication of a real employment situation.
In October 2000 Bungala joined the Jobs Australia Training Network in a partnered arrangement to deliver training ‘in house’, including work readiness and industry specific courses. This training is used to compliment the practical on the job skill acquisition provided through our CDEP activities. Testament to the success of this, Bungala have in the preceding 5 years placed in excess of 1,000 Indigenous people in our area into mainstream employment.
Board of Management
Bungala is managed by an Indigenous Board of Management and the large majority of its members have held terms for the past 6 years which has brought great stability to the organisation.
